Dear Claire's.... I've just had a month in New Haven - I'm the Canadian who was giving out flag pins - and your place saved my soul alive when I first arrived, exhausted, traumatized, and hungry, across the street at the Taft. If I hadn't had that wonderful soup that first night, I think I might've turned right around and gone home. Walker probably has a better guess than I do about how many meals I ate there, but it was certainly a fair number. Thanks for having such a welcoming, relaxed, and homey place - and of course, thanks for your marvelous food.--Janet

Hi Claire,   Tomorrow is a great day, as I bring our daughter, Claire, to Yale College for her first look. I attended YDS in the mid 80’s and my wife and I ate at your establishment, along with our friends on a regular basis. Yes, Claire is named after the “good vibes” at Claire’s Corner Copia (back in the day before you expanded!) and to this day we hunger for your soups, sandwiches and Lithuanian Coffee Cake! Claire, you are part of our family tradition! Hope to see you again as our Claire checks out Yale.  With gusto,  D....

Claire, About six months ago we ordered three cookbooks from you.  We were aware of your Corner Copia because we stop in whenever we pass through New Haven, usually on our way to Cape Cod.  I just want to thank you for the cookbooks.  I can honestly tell you that they have resulted in a tremendous improvement in the quality of our family’s meals, and much fun and happiness in cooking together and enjoying our meals.  All of your recipes have been big hits here, even with our 17 year old football player.  We are so happy with your recipes I felt compelled to thank you.  Take care.    L...

Dear Claire, I just had a Claire's Corner Copia night at my house!  I purchased your book on Friday and went shopping yesterday to try some new recipes.  I invited my dearest friends ( who I have also taken to your restaurant) over for dinner to sample the veggie burgers and quacamole!  Delicious!   My husband and I were craving a veggie burger and decided to take the train to New Haven from Providence.  Thanks for responding so soon.  Hope all is well.  Next time, we are going to try Basta Trattoria! Sincerely, Elaine

Review: I was in New Haven for a conference, and went exploring near my hotel for some good vegan eats and came upon Claire's not two blocks away! It's a bustling little place with a huge menu of yummy things. I ate there 2 days in a row and the food was tasty both times - I also got a piece of cake to go to eat back at the hotel. It's not the type of place with a waitstaff, you pick up your food at the counter, but everything's so good it doesn't matter. The prices were good too. It turned out that the meeting I went to had gotten the breakfast provided from Claire's too (knowing there'd be a vegan there), so I got to have the vegan muffins from there too. Delicious! I hope I get back to New Haven sometime, and if so, I'll definitely stop there

Pros: great portions * great food * wide menu variety

Dear Claire, You kept me alive through grad school! My husband and I live in Germany now and we think that (with Bush as president) coming to your restaurant is one of the only reasons to come to America - when I come home nowadays, it's just argue-argue-argue with my crazy relatives ... but we can come to your place to calm down and have some fantastic food. THANKS for being there and doing such a great job for so many years! If you ever find yourself in Southern Germany or Austria, please write - we'll take you to the best restaurants for miles around! (We're in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a gorgeous ski resort between Munich and Innsbruck.) J and A

I'm a regular at Claire's. I've worked in New Haven now for about 19 months. I canvased all the eateries the first several months. I kept returning to Claire's. Claire's in one of two places I eat regularly. With Claire's being my #1 choice! Not only is the food great, but the customer service and environment is great! A good place to sit and unwind after a stressful morning in the office. Claire is such a people person and I notice makes newcomers feel welcome and at home. All of the staff does the same. You can't go wrong at Claires.  --M...

I don't get to New Haven as much as I used to but every time we go we always, without fail, eat at your restaurant. You have the best food in the world! Please don't ever change but you might consider having a satellite restaurant in western CT! I would be there all the time. <g>

This week we were in New Haven and ate at Claires twice. Being a vegetarian for almost 30 years it was wonderful to find Claire's. My husband and daughter agree that Claires is our favorite place to eat. A vegetarian haven. Unfortunately we will be back in New Haven often for medical reasons but we are so happy and look forward to eating at Claire's again. I would also like to say how impressed we were with your staff. The same person took our orders both nights and he was a delight to talk to.

"What a find! While travelling through CT we decided to pull off Rt 95 to stop and "smell the roses"! Busy café located within quaint shopping and theatre district by Yale University. Excellent Barbecued Tofu, Beef soy fajitas, polenta, soups with your own mini loaf of sour dough bread, huge salads, awesome homemade veggie burgers. Nice, cozy atmosphere."

Claire-

Jackie and I have been coming here, alone and together and with kids and friends for almost 3 decades now. Sitting here today, we were thinking about how grateful we are for such a place that provides warmth, joy, great food and conversation, and is a true respite from the great weight of the outside world. And wouldn't it be wonderful if the larger world stemmed from this center, this special place, and its warmth and love was able to transform this larger world? We'll try and share the warmth and love of Claire's with us as we leave today.

I was just in your resturant this past Saturday and I had the best cookie I have ate! The vegan peanut butter cookie was to die for! I have the Claire's Corner Copia cookbook and was wondering if this recipe for the cookie was in any of your other cook books. I will buy which ever cook book it is in!! I love the orgininal one I have and use it all the time as a matter of fact as I am writing this I am eating the lentil soup I made from it. Please please tell me where I get the peanut butter cookie recipe!!

Claire writes; I am so glad you enjoyed our cookies, we love them too. The recipe is one that I wrote for Spectrum Organic Products using their organic trans fat free shortening and a product called ener-g as a vegan sub for dairy eggs. Have fun cooking and eating good food. Peace, Claire

Hi Claire, I am the nut who was so excited to see you that I barged over to you and said Hello this past Sat afternoon in Costco while you were minding your own business. I hope I didn't seem TOO strange. I just LOVE your cookbooks and they are the most treasured ones in my cookbook collection. They have the splatter marks which serve as their badges of honor to prove it. Thank you for taking the time to stop and chat. I don't normally walk over to people like that if I don't know them. I couldn't help it! As I said to you if it were a Hollywood actress I wouldn't have been so tickled to see you!

You asked me what my fav. recipes were and I blanked out. Now that I had time to think of it I can relay that. I do make the Marinara the most-very often. My FAVORITE dish has to be Eggplant with Mascarpone. Funny story though-I couldn't FIND mascarpone so I made it the first 2 times with cream cheese that I whipped in my kitchen aid mixer. It was great! When I finally did find Mascarpone it was great but we liked the cream cheese better. Now my husband calls the dish, "eggplant without mascarpone!" I love the cheddar scones, the blueberry buckle and zucchini fritters. Of course where can we get those lovely zucchini flowers in the winter?! What a delicacy they are! OH! The Greek Pasta salad- I take that to picnics in the summer! I could go on and on but those are my favorites.

So, thanks again for saying Hi and writing those wonderful cookbooks. I love the intro before each recipe as much as the recipes.

Sincerely, JP

PS I told my husband about Basta and we can't wait to go when things are less hectic (we are selling our house and buying a new one)

Claire's Cornercopia cookbook is used so often in my kitchen. I hope I can find the other cookbooks shown on this sight. Your Eggplant Casserole is ready for dinner tonight! I have prepared the casserole and given it and your cookbook to friends and relatives. My husband, who is not a vegetarian, anticipates our once a week vegetarian meal.......the recipes come from your book! Glad to be receiving e-mail from Claire' soon. Time for dinner! Sharon

My mom and I have been going to Claire's for as long as I remember. She raised me a vegetarian, and we both continue to live the lifestyle. We ADORE Claire's because of it's radiant and friendly owner and workers, it's down-to-earth appeal, it's comforting warmth and charm, and, of course, for it's incredible cuisine- absolutely the most outstanding and wholly nutritious vegetarian food around. I now live very close to New Haven, so we make it to Claire's more often. You guys really are the best!

Subject: Your website

Hi there,

I just logged onto your wonderful website for the first time.

It's really great.

I now live in NYC, but I was a student at Yale from fall of '86 to spring of '89---and then came back to work at Yale Rep.

Claire's was often a life saver to me.

Delicious and nutritious---at a bargain price -- and also quick, when necessary.

and it was always so great to see Claire and to get to say "thank you" for everything that was happening---because it was obvious that Claire's Cornercopia is not just about the food we see and smell---but there's also a divine nourishment coming from the strong INTENTION that is behind your service.

So now---through cyber sapce---I get another chance to pass along my thanks to you guys---for making the world a better place in so many ways.

The one thing that I would like to see more of on your website is...

Pictures of Claire!!

I love her beautiful smile and that beautiful Earth Mama face!

Let us see that beautiful face prominently displayed on the website!!

That's the ONLY thing I can think of to offer as constructive feedback!

The rest--- you're doing amazingly well with!

Again, big thanks.

Love
