Caring for our Community/Donations

Each month, we designate a different charity to benefit from our Coins for Causes collection jar that we set by our cash registers.

-2007-

  • June 9 and 10, 2007
We hosted our annual Alex's Lemonade Stand in front of Claire's Corner Copia, and sold Lemonade, Lemon Cakes, and painted faces (lemons, of course) in memory of Alex Scott and raised money for research of Childhood Cancers for her foundation. The stand, coupled with our Coins for Causes jar has raised more than $1,000.00 to date and by the end of June, we hope to raise close to $1,300.00 and with your help, we'll get there. Thank you so much for all the support. Together, we really do make a difference!

Look for the March issue of Natural Home and Garden Magazine. Earth Dinner at Claire's Corner Copia will be a feature with plenty of photographs that marked our annual Earth Day Dinner.

Our 2006 Earth Day Dinners will be held this year at Claire's Corner Copia and our Basta Trattoria on Saturday, April 22. Details to follow.

Look for the April issue of Taste for Life Magazine, and read Claire's story and recipes to celebrate organic foods.

On October 5, we participated in DineForAmerica, a project from the American Red Cross to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We will donate $400.00 from Claire's Corner Copia and Basta Trattoria, representing a portion of our proceeds from the day.

Thanks to the generosity of our beloved customers, and ti Christine (our wonderful staffer) and her church group who dedicated their time to run our lemonade stand, and to Channel 8 who covered the event, we are proud to announce that we sent a check for $1,000.00 to Alex's Lemonade Stand.

Saturday, August 20, 2005 Time: 11:30 until 3:00 PM We will host Alex's Lemonade Stand to help raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Please join us in raising funds for this worthy cause, and cool off with a glass of real lemonade at the same time.

On April 22, Earth Day, we hosted our annual Earth Dinners to celebrate our organic farmers who were courageous enough to Go Organic even when they knew in advance that the money would be less, the work harder, and the distribution more work given the higher price. It was a delicious night with soup, salad, pasta, entree, and dessert made completely with organic ingredients. We served French Peasant Soup, Spinach and Gala Apple Salad with a toasted walnut and blood orange vinaigrette, Whole Wheat and Semolina Linguine with a Creamy Tomato and Dill Sauce, Roasted Sweet and White Potatoes and Onions, with Soy Tempeh, Lemon, and Dill, and for dessert; Brown Rice Pudding with Chocolate Chips, and Coconut, topped with a dollop of Housemade Creme Fraiche with Raspberries, and mint leaves for garnish. Fully organic of course. It was quite the challenge sourcing the ingredients, but worth it. Knowing where your food comes from is always worth the effort.

The editor of Natural Home and Garden Magazine sent a photographer who spent the day and evening taking pictures of the ingredients, the cooking, and the meal. I can't wait to see the photos! They are for their Earth Day Dinners, 2006 that will appear in their April 2006 issue. I'll share photos with you as soon as we get them.

Claire's Corner Copia and Basta Trattoria joined forces to help raise funds for the New Haven Ronald McDonald House by hosting dinners at both restaurants and donating a percentage of the proceeds to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. A check in the amount of $500.00 was presented to this most important home away from home, truly a home that was built with love.

Claire's Corner Copia has started a program "Coins and Bills for Good Causes." We offer the opportunity for a local charity to display their logo and information about their work on a collection jar placed on our counter. This project has allowed us to collect and donate thousands of dollars to the following organizations to date: Aids Project New Haven, our first collection began back in the early 90's Leukemia/Lymphoma Association Kidney Foundation Connecticut Food Bank Children in Placement, our present recipient

Thanks to the generous support of our wonderful and caring customers and staff we have been able to help fill some of the needs in our community. Thank you for Giving until it Helps!

Frank and I wish you all the joys and blessings of the holiday season today and always.

Peace, Claire
